Edo Traders Call For Immediate Sack Of Leader

By Favour Percy-Idubor

Traders Welfare Union of Nigeria, Edo State Chapter, has raised alarm over what it describes as a series of undemocratic actions and atrocities allegedly committed by the current Edo State market leader, Josephine Ibhaguezejele.

Speaking during the protest at the Oba Palace, the union's president, Comrade Lucky Orukpe, claimed that Ibhaguezejele was never officially inaugurated and questioned the legitimacy of her position

Orukpe accused Josephine  of illegality and attempt to demolish Ogiso market with claims that governor Monday Okpebholo sent her to demolish the market which was later discovered to be a lie.

According to Comrade Orukpe, the position of Iye Eki, (market leader) in Benin markets should be for a Benin woman thereby calling for the removal of Josephine as the market leader.

They however prayed the Palace and Edo State government to prevent the imposition of any unthorized person or decision on the market community, allow traders to continue their legitimate businesses peacefully as committed tax payers in the State, and that any proposed development or restructuring of the market be done transparently and with due consultation with all stakeholders.

Addressing the protesters on behalf of the Benin monarch, the Oyoba of Benin Chief Isaac Oghafua flanked by Chief Uyi Okungbowa Ogua of Benin assured that their issues will be immediately channeled to the throne for action

While urging the protesters to remain peaceful, chief Oyoba pointed that Omo N'Oba Ewuare in his wisdom, is determined to ensure peace and overall development of Benin kingdom and the state at large.
